Unsuccessful installation in Honda Accord and Acura TL.
We have a 4-year old son who just out-grew our Britax Boulevard car seats. My wife and I have one in each of our cars and have been delighted with the Boulevards and how securely they install. We were equally satisfied with the Britax infant carrier. We ordered two of the Britax Frontier seats because of our past experience with Britax and for the 5-point harness and side impact protection.
We received the seats a few days after we ordered them. The first thing that we noticed is that they were quite heavy and appeared to be well-built. I read through the manual, watched the installation video at the Britax website and quickly went down to install the first of the two seats into my Accord. Everything went smoothly, I mounted the seat as instructed but the fit was loose even after I tightened the rear shoulder belt. I read through the manual again, realized that there was an alternate installation (long belt path), tried that and the fit was sloppy. It was snug enough so that there was no forward or twisting motion but I could easilly push the seat from side-to-side with little effort.
After spending an hour trying various installation methods we were disgusted and disappointed with this design so we returned both seats.
It seems to me that the best way to secure a car seat is to secure the lower portion of the seat with "LATCH" and the upper seat with a rear shoulder belt, the tether or both. The Frontier is designed such that this is not possible for children weighing over 40 lbs. After some searching we found the SafeGuard Go Hybrid Booster which is secured at the base with LATCH, at the top by the tether and has a 5-point harness and side impact protection. This is a cheaper seat and will not have the sturdiness of Britax, which we've always appreciated, but at least our son will be fastened in a seat that will not slide from side-to-side, as the Frontier does.
I rated this seat two stars simply because the quality is undisputable, however, Britax needs to work on better ways at securing the Frontier to the car.
As for Amazon, the purchase and delivery was quick and easy and returning the seats was as simple as a few clicks of the mouse.
