We have a Britax Roundabout, which we love, so wanted next car seat to be Britax. There are several problems with this:
1. I can live with tricky installation. But after doing the tricky installation, the seat should be rock solid. This one wouldn't hug the 04 Passat Wagon's middle seat when using the LATCH system.
2. I can live with using the seat belt instead of LATCH (we do that in the other car where we have a seat from French manufacturer that doesn't have LATCH). SO tried the LONG BELT PATH installation. Turns out that the seat is too big for the standard seat belt to use the long belt path. The long belt path method intuitively seems more stable than short belt path. For the other French seat, we use the long belt path method and it works.
3. So we have to live with SHORT BELT PATH. OK - it's no worse than LATCH, so can live with that. Tried that installation. The seat moves too much, doesn't hug the car (same problem as with LATCH installation).
4. If you want to install on the side instead of the middle, it may work. But it's too big if you want to install this one and another seat, and one of them has to be in the middle.
The seat is very heavy and solidly built, which inspires confidence in safety (hence two stars, not one). But if it keeps moving... well, they got the basics wrong. The roundabout is great, never moves one bit!
The frontier has other small problems (the clip can slide down the belt all the way unlike on roundabout because frontier doesn't have the velcro straps, for example). We would have lived with those or fixed those under normal circumstances, but can't live with major flaw like this.

Settled for this seat, after trying out others (tried and returned Sunshine Kids Radian 80 as well). We wanted to keep this seat in the middle (not on side), which we couldn't do with long path. The long path works for side seat, as the seatbelt for side seat is much longer than for middle seat. The seat is reasonably stable (not as stable as Britax Roundabout, but acceptable).
So, if you are looking for a seat narrow enough to be in the middle, this is not the one. However, if you can live with the seat being on the side, this may work for you.
As part of researching car seats, found several crash test videos - so keeping kids in 5-point harness is the way to go, NOT using boosters. From that point of view, this seat is great. Just have to live with the seat being on the side instead of middle.Get more detail about Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat Rushmore.
